Fire activity in Southern California's Simi Valley has decreased significantly overnight due to calmer winds and higher humidity levels, according to Cal Fire.
Approximately 750 firefighters are actively working to contain the Sandy Fire, which has burned nearly 1,400 acres since it began on Monday morning.
Helicopters are being used to douse hotspots, while containment lines are being established.

Why It's Important?

The Sandy Fire has prompted the evacuation of over 10,000 households, with an additional 3,500 under evacuation warnings. Schools in the Simi Valley district are closed, and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library has been evacuated. While some evacuation orders have been lifted, the fire remains uncontained, posing a continued threat to nearby communities, including Thousand Oaks and the Santa Monica Mountains. PG&E has preemptively shut off power to approximately 20,000 homes and businesses to mitigate fire risks. The combination of strong winds and low humidity could exacerbate fire spread, endangering lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
